Belonging and Contributing
Help prepare a tasty snack that you and mom can enjoy together, perhaps outside on a sunny day. Spread a blanket under a tree in your yard. Some easy food options for you to prepare might be...cookies and milk, a sandwich, chips and a cold drink, or fruit and nuts. Spend time talking about some of the special things you have gotten to do together.
A Chain of Caring: Who matters most to you in your life? I am certain that you can come up with a list of people whom you care about and who care about you. Take some coloured paper and cut it into strips about an inch or so wide. Write the name of each person on one of the strips, using letters that are large enough to read from a distance, about an inch or so tall. After making your ‘name strips,’ create a chain using those strips by fastening them together using a stapler or tape. You may need an adult to offer you a little assistance with this. Once your chain is completed, place it in a prominent place in your home where all can see it and ‘think about’ those who hold special places in your heart. Who knows? Your parents and siblings may want to make a chain of their own. You could connect all the chains together and hang them in your living room or over your dining table. Spend time talking about why the people you added to your chain ‘matter to you.’

After listening to the book, create your own Wacky Wednesday picture. Create a picture with 10 wacky things in it. Show your picture to an adult and see if they can pick out all 10. Create an Ant Farm. Have you been noticing any six legged uninvited guests in your home lately? I certainly have. This is the time of year when ants leave their nests and go in search of food and water. These industrious insects are incredibly interesting to watch and learn about. You can create your own Ant Farm quite easily with the help of an adult and a few things that you probably have around your house. Collecting ants is rarely difficult this time of year. Put some honey or corn syrup on a piece of parchment paper and leave it on the floor in your kitchen where you suspect ants might be coming in. Place them into the container you have created after watching the YouTube video provided above. Make sure that your ants have food, water, and oxygen. Over the first few days, you will begin to see tunnels forming inside the clear container you use for your farm. Take pictures of your Ant Farm and send them to us so that we can post them on the blog. Have fun!
