A Castle Emerges

Over the past week, we have been quite busy transforming our Dramatic Play Centre into a castle. The process has been and continues to be a slow one, but we hope to have a completed castle by the end of this next week. We began by clearing away all of our beautiful, new 'kitchen' furniture and stacking it in a corner of the classroom. Next, the wall was cleared of student work and documentation.

Students busily cut and shaded pieces of light construction paper to give the impression of stones. Black paper was used as a base to suggest aging mortar. Many students contributed their painting skills by assisting Ms. Campbell outside in painting large cardboard boxes to be used within the space to suggest stone walls.

Many thanks to parents who have contributed masks, crowns and simple costume pieces for our 'castle' project. These items will certainly help the children get into the spirit of the Middle Ages and life at court. We are still in need of some armour to outfit our knights. Swords are being discouraged as our space is extremely limited and we need to maintain as safe an environment as possible.

Check back in often to monitor our progress.
