Memories of JOY DAY

Last Monday, December 2nd, the elves were hard at work in ELP-K1. Here are some of the day's highlights…

We began the morning by mixing up some delicious gingerbread muffins. Once we popped them into the oven, the school filled with the spicy aroma of freshly baked gingerbread.

The finished product looked and tasted spectacular!

Awaiting our kinders at the Art Centre was a wide assortment of seasonal craft supplies to create holiday decor and tree ornaments.

Here, two J/K's put their creative artistry to good use.

In another area of the classroom, students were given the opportunity to create paper chains to hang up around the classroom. Conversations around patterning and measurement flourished at this centre.

Hmmm…these items were interesting. We wondered what could be done with them…???

A sensory bin filled with frosty, sparkly stones and tiles created endless opportunities for fun and imaginative play.

During our large group time, the class sequenced an assortment of coloured paper strips before gluing them to the classroom door in order to create a unique holiday tree decoration. Throughout this activity, we discussed and problem-solved around the concepts of 'longer' and 'shorter.'

The light table offered students the opportunity to explore and create with ice crystals and snowflakes.

Throughout the morning and afternoon, seasonal stories were read and enjoyed and Christmas music filled the room as we delighted in an endless array of holiday activities and fun.

Our day was indeed JOYFUL! As we said our "goodbyes" at the end of the day, the children bounded out of the building with smiles on their faces and a candy cane treat in their hands.
