Memories of JOY DAY

Last Monday, December 2nd, the elves were hard at work in ELP-K1. Here are some of the day's highlights…

We began the morning by mixing up some delicious gingerbread muffins. Once we popped them into the oven, the school filled with the spicy aroma of freshly baked gingerbread.

The finished product looked and tasted spectacular!

Awaiting our kinders at the Art Centre was a wide assortment of seasonal craft supplies to create holiday decor and tree ornaments.

Here, two J/K's put their creative artistry to good use.

In another area of the classroom, students were given the opportunity to create paper chains to hang up around the classroom. Conversations around patterning and measurement flourished at this centre.

Hmmm…these items were interesting. We wondered what could be done with them…???

A sensory bin filled with frosty, sparkly stones and tiles created endless opportunities for fun and imaginative play.

During our large group time, the class sequenced an assortment of coloured paper strips before gluing them to the classroom door in order to create a unique holiday tree decoration. Throughout this activity, we discussed and problem-solved around the concepts of 'longer' and 'shorter.'

The light table offered students the opportunity to explore and create with ice crystals and snowflakes.

Throughout the morning and afternoon, seasonal stories were read and enjoyed and Christmas music filled the room as we delighted in an endless array of holiday activities and fun.

Our day was indeed JOYFUL! As we said our "goodbyes" at the end of the day, the children bounded out of the building with smiles on their faces and a candy cane treat in their hands.
Kinder Christmas Program

This Thursday, December 12 at 2:00 PM, the ELP classes at Parnall School will be performing a short Christmas program in the gymnasium. The performance will last approximately fifteen minutes, after which parents are invited back to their child's classroom for light refreshments and a song. Students are being asked to wear either red, green or a special holiday outfit that day. We hope to see you there!
Pasta Lunch is Coming!

In the hopes of raising money to afford a field trip to Medieval Times later this year, the Grade 4 students have organized a Pasta Lunch each month which is catered by Antipastos. This month, this special lunch will occur on Wednesday, December 18. Our children would like to support their Grade 4 friends in their efforts. The ELP teachers are going to order the pasta in advance. We will conduct a quick survey this upcoming week to find out which type of pasta the children would like to eat and order the appropriate portions. Choices include pasta with sauce, pasta with sauce and a meatball and pasta with just butter. Rolls and a small salad will be offered as well. On Wednesday, December 18, have your child bring a toonie to school, along with a morning snack and a drink. The pasta lunch will be served around 1:00 PM. Thanks for helping us support our Grade 4 friends in their fundraising efforts.

New Drop Off and Pick Up Locations

Beginning Monday, December 2nd, students will need to line up at the double door which is to the right of Mrs. Cornelius' exterior door before entering the building in the morning. Children will be dismissed in the afternoon at the front of the school building from a single door which is to the left of the Main doors. The reason for this change is to alleviate the amount of snow and slush that has been tracked into the classroom over the past several days. As the children enter the school building, they will be leaving their winter boots outside the classroom in a designated spot clearly marked with their name tag. This new system will cut down on water being tracked into the room as well as help the children keep their socks dry while they change into their indoor shoes. Parents are encouraged to pack an extra pair of socks and mittens in their child's backpack to ensure warmth and comfort throughout the day.
JOY DAY!

Tomorrow, December 2nd is JOY DAY in Kindergarten. Children will be decorating their classrooms for the holiday season, singing Christmas Carols, making seasonal decorations to take home and enjoying special refreshments. If possible, the students are asked to dress in something red or green to extend the holiday cheer.
